Into this world I was born

Completely nude, naked

I began to lift myself from the ground

I learned to sit

I learned to crawl

They taught me to walk on the ground

In a modest environment

Poor and happy

Father created me

Blessed by Sir God

I learned to smile

I learned to call my father and mother

I learned to meet people

Play, yell and sing

Then, already big

Knowing how to speak

To school they sent me

I went and learned to read

Learned to count

Learned to sign my name

In my youth

Everything was trivial

In the midst of kindness and love

The world was another thing

The people were different

There was less wickedness than today

The years flew by

My world was changing

I went to foreign lands

Surrounded by hypocrites

In the middle of skin and blood

There were delicious times and bitter ones

Seven seas I traveled

Always adventuring

In the evolution of life

Of black and of white

I came to know the entire world; and pain

Searching for progress

Carving out a destiny

In this gypsy world

That God gave me

But I feel happy

For having been born Cape Verdean
